EXIF — Image and Camera

Make, model and lens; exposure time, aperture, ISO and focal length; when the photo was taken and which software saved it last. Some cameras also record their serial number and the owner's name.

GPS location

Latitude, longitude, altitude and often the direction the camera was facing. Phones add it whenever location access is on for the camera app. Use the map link to see where it points.

Embedded thumbnail

JPEG files often contain a small preview made when the photo was taken. Some editors do not update it, so a cropped or retouched photo can still carry the original in miniature. If one exists, it is shown on the Summary tab.

XMP and IPTC

Captions, keywords, creator, copyright and location names added by Lightroom, Photoshop, stock agencies and news organisations — plus edit history and, increasingly, AI labels.

File structure

The last tab lists every block in the file with its offset and size — useful for spotting unexpected data such as appended video or vendor blocks.

Frequently asked questions

What metadata can this viewer read?

EXIF (camera, exposure, GPS, embedded thumbnail), XMP, IPTC, ICC color profiles, PNG text chunks, JPEG and GIF comments and C2PA Content Credentials — from JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, HEIC, AVIF and TIFF.

Can I export the metadata?

Yes. Open the “All metadata” tab and click “Export JSON” to save every field, the AI and privacy findings and the block layout of the file.

Why are some photos missing EXIF?

Screenshots never have camera data, and most messaging apps and social networks strip EXIF on upload. Images saved from the web are usually already stripped.

Is it safe to check private photos here?

Yes. The file is read by your browser and is never sent anywhere. There is no upload step and no server-side processing.
